CE 5326: Analysis and Design of Earth Structures

The objective of this course is to provide the student with a good understanding of the principles and concepts used in slope stability investigations and also familiarize him/her with the tools used in such studies. The topics covered are: soil shear strength and its measurement, pore pressure parameters, limit equilibrium concept, total stress versus effective stress analysis in slope stability analysis, methods of slope stability analysis such as sliding block, circular arc failure analyses, ordinary method of slices, Bishop's, Spencer's, Janbu's Methods of analysis, stability of earthen embankment dams, computer programs, slope stabilization.
